A former US Army drone operator has been arrested following an incident outside of Vice President Kamala Harris’ home.
Paul Murray was stopped a short distance from the VP’s temporary Blair House residence, reportedly armed with a semiautomatic rifle.
Murray, who was discharged from Army in 2014 due to a schizophrenia diagnosis, had initially enlisted in 2010.
According to the ABC, he told his mother he had gone to Washington, DC, in order to “take care of his problem.”
Murray reportedly had delusions that the government was out to harm him.
Murray was charged with several DC-area-centric gun charges, including possession of unregistered firearms and ammunition.
His charges include “carrying a large-capacity ammunition-feeding device, a dangerous weapon, a rifle, and unregistered ammunition.”
Originally a place designed to lodge guests of the president, Blair House is being used by Harris until renovations to the the official VP residence are completed.
