President Barack Obama awards the Medal of Honor to Master Sgt. Jose Rodela during a ceremony at the White House March 18, 2014 in Washington, D.C. Rodela earned the Medal of Honor for his valorous actions during combat operations against an armed enemy in Phuoc Long Province, Republic of Vietnam on September 1, 1969. Rodela was a Sgt. First Class while serving as the company commander, Detachment B-36, Company A, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 1st Special Forces when he earned the medal.
