Idaho Army recruiter arrested for sexual contact with minor 16 or under, facing life in prison

Sergeant First Class Keith Maxwell

An Idaho Army National Guardsman is potentially looking at life behind bars after he reportedly had unlawful sexual contact with a teenage girl 16 years of age or less.

Sergeant First Class Keith Maxwell was taken into custody by the Ada County Sheriff’s Office in the Boise area on Saturday, mere hours after the crime had been reported.

40-year-old Maxwell knew the teenage girl prior to the alleged assault, and is a recruiter for the Idaho Army National Guard.

According to the Idaho State Journal, the Guard removed him from recruiting duty on Sunday.

“Our top priorities include protecting the wellbeing and safety of all Idaho citizens and we will fully cooperate with our local law enforcement throughout the investigation,” the Idaho Military Division said in an email statement. “Our recruiters undergo extensive and additional background checks -on top of what all Soldiers normally undergo- because we consider recruiting a position of significant trust, given the nature of their work.”

In Idaho, lewd conduct of a minor under 16 can result in life imprisonment.
