The trailer for Top Gun 2 was released today and after thirty-three years of waiting, there is one thing that is very clear -Navy aircraft have more signs of aging than Tom Cruise.
Top Gun was released in 1986 when the Chicago Bears beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl; smoking was finally banned on public transportation and it’s also the same year of the Chernobyl disaster.
If the time gap between films has not set in for you yet, this should do it. One of the top songs of 1986 was “Party All the Time” by Eddie Murphy.
During this time, Tom Cruise had a brief fling with now 73-year-old Cher before he was married in 1987.
Fast forward to 2019 and Mr. Cruise is 57 years old and playing a Navy Captain -an officer rank with an average age of 39 in the military.
While his character in the movie is set in present time, meaning his character, Maverick, should be the same age as Cruise himself, you would never be able to tell.
It is no secret that Hollywood has secrets to defying age and Cruise has obviously capitalized on all of them. But in true military movie watching fashion, we have to point out all of the “that would never happen” moments that annoy civilians in any audience.
With the help of FaceApp, we have made “Grandpa Maverick.”
