H&K employee goes rogue on social, unleashes barrage of dumb Marine jokes

In the firearms community, there is a well-known running joke that high-end German firearms manufacturer Heckler & Koch lives by the motto “Because you suck, and we hate you.”

Tasked with building and fielding out the new M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) to the grunts of the US Marine Corps, HK has taken the arrogant persona -which was given to them by firearms enthusiast- to heart, especially their marketing team.

On Tuesday, the world-renowned firearms manufacturer unveiled brand new M27s slated for Marine use, and let the Corps know in a cheeky way.

“A fresh batch of M27 rifles leaving Georgia headed to the Devil Dogs,” the HK social media team posted on the company’s Facebook. “If any of you crayon eaters are reading this, please treat them nice, even though we built them to be Marine proof.”

Flooded with comments from Marines eager to see the new rifles, HK did not hold back on the Marine jokes.

“FYI, this was not a challenge to try to break them,” the company said of the rifles.
“We know reading comprehension [isn’t] a strong suit.”

The Marines, of course, were happy to play along.

“I can’t read what that said, but looked at the picture,” Marine veteran Mike Nguyen said of the post.”

“We wrote out a training manual that used no words over 6 letters, we were told that we didn’t use enough pictures,” HK replied. “By the time we submitted a manual that was approved, it was literally nothing but pictures.”

Others doubted that anything is truly “Marine-proof.”

“Marine proof?” Aaron Chase scoffed. “One of those rifles will be pregnant by the end of the month.”

Some fans played upon the “You suck, and we hate you” mantra, giving HK props for having a sense of humor.

“If your favorite firearms dealer doesn’t belittle your intelligence, you deserve better,” Jeff Sherman said.

“We despise them,” HK said, “And they love us for it.”

When the social media team was asked if corporate would take issue with the open challenge of a rifle being deemed “Marine-proof,” HK was pretty up-front about what was going to happen next.

“They are in total support,” HK’s “Social Media Girl” said. “Right up until the Commandant calls us and says that hundreds of M27 rifles have been drug behind jets, thrown out of helicopters and ran over by tanks by a bunch of leathernecks trying to prove a point.”

To date, HK still thinks you suck, and most likely still hates you.
