Four arrested for robbing service members at gun point on Memorial Day

Service members who were visiting Detroit on leave for the holiday weekend fell victim to a violent crime on Monday.

Four men were arrested for allegedly robbing a group of active duty sailors while they were loading their car on Memorial Day.

As the two male and two female service members were packing to return from leave four young men allegedly surrounded them at gun point, demanding all of their personal belongings –which included their military IDs.

Detroit police were able to find the men and make the arrest within an hour of the crime due to several witness descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle.

Ironically, one of the suspects was wearing a t-shirt with an American flag and the phrase, “American freedom,” according to WXYZ Detroit.

Federal agents could become involved in this case because Department of Defense ID cards were stolen.

During an interview with Fox2, one of the sailors – a Third Class Petty Officer – told the suspects, “get a job, honestly.”

He continued to say that he left Detroit for the military because “it was either get a job at Chrysler or you run in the streets, so it was time for me to leave.”

No shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident or arrest.
