The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted at approximately 3:14 a.m., on October 13, 2018, by KCS Railroad personnel regarding a person who had just been struck by a train at the Eissman Road Crossing in the area of Sandy Hill.
KCS employees advised that the train had been Northbound on the tracks when they observed a subject lying between the rails of the track just South of the Eissman Road crossing.
The train was unable to stop and struck the subject.
VPSO Deputies, LSP Troopers, KCS Trainmaster, and Fort Polk Casualty Assistance, and the Vernon Parish Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.
The deceased victim was later identified as 21 year old, Walter Reno Alderson, of Kirby, Montana. Alderson was an active duty service member in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Polk.
