Fort Eustis lockdown lifted after report of shots fired


Joint Base Langley–Eustis was placed on precautionary lockdown according to officials at the base.

Officials at the base said that this was not an active shooter situation despite sending out this message:

“Active Shooter (REAL WORLD). FT Eustis base personnel implement LOCKDOWN, LOCKDOWN, LOCKDOWN procedures due to active shooter. The last known threat area is Building 650, Inprocessing center”

According to a witness, active shooter protocol was initiated after the sounds of gun shots were heard at the front gate.

The incident is reported to have occurred around 11:30 a.m.

Fort Eustis broadcast journalist, Senior Airman Kristina Lacoste, told Popular Military, “there are no causalities.”  She also reported that the base is not treating this as an active shooter but a report of shots fired outside building 650.

Update (1300): According to the Joint Base Langley–Eustis alert system the lockdown has been lifted.
