Fort Drum soldier airlifted to Syracuse after sustaining gunshot wound


A U.S. Army soldier was hospitalized after sustaining a gunshot wound during training on Monday.

The soldier, who has only been identified as a male in the 10th Mountain Division’s 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, was shot around 2:30 p.m. Monday during a mounted gunnery exercise at Fort Drum.

He was transported by helicopter from Range 24 to the Upstate Medical University in Syracuse for treatment, according to the Watertown Daily News.

He is in stable condition and the wound is not life-threatening, Fort Drum said.

The incident is under investigation.
