A US Army infantry soldier at Fort Bragg has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery of a pizza delivery woman last winter around Thanksgiving time in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, facing up to 15 years in prison.
22-year-old Thomas Eugene Harris II was indicted in April on single counts of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, theft valued less than $100 and second-degree assault after he allegedly enlisted the help of two juveniles in order to rob the delivery driver.
On November 26 of last year, the driver told police that three individuals surrounded her, robbing her for two pizzas and a dessert, worth around forty dollars.
The driver reported that the individual in front of her kept repeating “it’s cold out here,” before the group pounced on her, possibly a code word to the others
Harris -who was on leave in Maryland during the time of the attack- was allegedly armed with a “stolen handgun from Walmart” during the incident, which implies* the weapon was a BB gun due to Walmart’s 25-year-old practice of not selling handguns.
According to The Calvert Recorder, the juveniles were charged through their age-specific legal system, while Harris was charged and subsequently indicted by a Calvert County grand jury April 16.
The United States Army Criminal Investigations Division is assisting in the case.
