Fort Bragg soldier kills his pregnant wife, who was due to give birth to their fourth child on Christmas

An apparent murder-suicide took place at the home of a Fort Bragg soldier, mere days before Christmas.

A pregnant woman and her unborn child were the victims of a Sunday shooting allegedly by Staff Sergeant Keith Lewis, a member of the US Army Special Operations community.

Police say Lewis fatally shot his pregnant wife Sarah Lewis, 34, who was due to give birth to their fourth child on Christmas Day, at their Fayetteville home.

Lewis took his own life shortly after.

Witnesses claimed an automatic weapon (classified as a “machine gun” under the National Firearms Act), though the firearms knowledge of the aforementioned individuals is unknown.

Emilia River told WRAL that she and her boyfriend heard the shots.

“We heard the gunshots. Immediately he was like, ‘You know someone just died. You don’t shoot that many gunshots and not try to kill somebody,'” she said.

Police initially responded and tried to speak with Lewis, though the latter eventually ran back into the house and took his own life.

“When the police came, they were talking to him for about 15 minutes,” the witness recounted.

The shooting is under investigation.
