Former Marine has been waiting 27 years for the girl he met in a nightclub to show up again

Young Marines tend to fall in love quickly but also know how to let it go when it doesn’t work out.

But not Esteban Perez, he’s been waiting for 27 years for a young woman he met in a nightclub in 1996.

Every Valentine’s Day, former U.S. Marine Esteban Perez dresses in his old uniform, holds a bouquet, and waits in the hopes of seeing her again in the Mexican border city of Nuevo Laredo.

The 56-year-old Perez says he fell in love with a woman named Cecilia after their encounter in the nightclub but says she ended their relationship after a couple of months.

“I am still single, I have no children, I have never married, and I have never looked for another girl because I would never see in any other girl what I saw in Cecilia,” he said.

He also said this was his last year waiting for her and he’s ready to move on.

“Today is the last time I stand here,” he said. “Today is the last day, the last time.”
