A British military veteran was apparently gunned down in a “crime-ridden California city’,” according to a British news source.

Satyan Dave, a father of two, was shot and killed in Oakland last Thursday -just weeks before he was scheduled to go home to his family.

The 49-year-old former paratrooper, from north London, was working for a private security firm, according to LBC.

He was supposed to go home to the United Kingdom in August to spend time with his young son and daughter.

“Oakland, a city of about 440,000 people near San Francisco, has often been ranked one of the most dangerous cities in the US,” LBC reports.

The Oakland police were dispatched to report of gunfire around 5:15 a.m. on July 27th.

“Upon arrival, officers located an individual suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s). Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased on scene,” a spokesperson for the department said.

“There have been no arrests made in this case. This is an active investigation. We are unable to provide additional details at this time.”

The department stated the OPD Homicide Section is handling the investigation.
