The US Army needs a few good grunts, and are willing to pay new recruits bonuses of up to $40,000 to join the Infantry.

The 11X Military Occupational Specialty is now worth forty grand, with over 3,300 Infantry seats needing to be filled by September 30, 2019.

We saw this coming in May; we immediately went to the senior leadership and said, ‘look, we need to max out the bonuses for 11Xs,'” said Major General Frank Muth, commander of Army Recruiting Command. “If you sign up to be 11X and you sign a six-year commitment- $40,000.”

The six-year commitment is a big part of why the bonus is so substantial, but it is indeed higher than the bonus in play before May, which was only $15,000. That said, people not wanting to give six years to the Infantry can also get $20,000 for a three-year enlistment, $25,000 for a four-year enlistment and $30,000 for a five-year enlistment.

According to Military.com, the bonuses will run out soon, and potential recruits must ship out before August and September.
