A Royal Palm Beach High School teacher and Navy JROTC instructor is accused of trying to strike up a romantic relationship with a student.

Israel Gonzalez, 56, was arrested Thursday and charged with being an authority figure soliciting lewd conduct with a student, according to Palm Beach County School District police.

The police report said Gonzalez asked an 18-year-old student in class on Tuesday if she could “keep a secret.” When she answered “yes,” Gonzalez asked if she would “like to make out with him,” and persisted with his requests, police said.

She asked Gonzalez why he was interested in her, and he responded “You are a young and intelligent teenager, and you speak eloquently, and present yourself as a lady, not an 18-year-old,” the arrest report read.

She told her father, who reported it to the school district, and investigators set up a follow-up call in which Gonzalez solicited the teen, they said.

Although Gonzalez told the girl he just wanted to kiss her at first to see how she reacted, police said, he also described graphic detail what he wanted to do to her sexually.

Gonzalez was arrested at school Thursday morning and released from the Palm Beach County Jail Thursday night on a $5,000 bond, records show. Attempts to reach Gonzalez by phone for comment were unsuccessful.
