Florida man charged with DUI after crashing into eight military personnel

A Florida man is facing DUI charges after hitting eight Pensacola-based sailors with his vehicle on Saturday night.

56-year-old Eric Watt of Pensacola was charged with DUI in the aftermath of the crash, which involved eight pedestrians who were all stationed at Pensacola Naval Air Station.

The crash took place on Perdido Key Drive, which was promptly closed down by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office for the remainder of the evening.

Two of the eight victims were transported to regional hospitals with life-threatening injuries, while the remainder were sent to local hospitals with less critical injuries.

One victim recently released from the hospital told local news sources that the group of eight were all friends who lived in the same apartment complex. At the time of the vehicular assault, they were on their way home from dinner.

According to the Pensacola News-Journal, Watt was charged with DUI causing serious bodily injury to another and is currently the subject of an ongoing investigation. More charges are likely to follow.
