First evidence of Special Ops forces on ground in Syria released

British special forces operating inside Syria (faces have been obscured to protect identities) have been seen for the first time in exclusive footage obtained by BBC News

They have been working alongside moderate rebel fighters of the New Syrian Army in the battle against so-called Islamic State.

The pictures appear to show the operators securing the perimeter of the moderate rebel New Syrian Army base of Al Tanaf on the Syria-Iraq border following an attack by ISIS.

BBC stated: “According to eyewitnesses, they were there in a defensive role. But they are carrying an arsenal of equipment including sniper rifles, heavy machine guns and anti-tank missiles.”

“We are receiving special forces training from our British and American partners. We’re also getting weapons and equipment from the Pentagon as well as complete air support,” said a spokesman for the rebels.

The Pentagon and CIA’s program to train and arm rebels has been generally considered a failure since many of the fighters were kidnapped or gave their weapons to Al-Qaeda linked groups in Syria, according to the BBC.
