Commander denies Soldier’s leave because “men don’t go to baby showers”

Photos of an apparent leave request form that was posted to Imgur four days ago have gone viral. According to the post, an Army Specialist was denied leave after he submitted a leave form (DA Form 31) to his commander with “Baby Shower” listed as the reason he was requesting leave.

His commanding officer rejected his leave request and returned the document with “Baby Shower” crossed out and the message, “MEN DONT GO TO BABY SHOWERS.”

In what appears to be an attempt to reclaim his manhood, the unknown Specialist re-submitted his leave form with the following remarks:

“Going home to the Appalachian mountains to drink whisky, wrestle bears, and shoot lots of guns. I also plan to grow out a beard, chop down a hundred trees with my axe and eat 10lbs of thick cut bacon with my wife, who I plan to have lots of unprotected sex with. because I am a man and that’s just what we do. Football.”

The pictures of the rejected leave form and the redacted version have had over 8 million views on Imgur and thousands of comments on Reddit.

The top commenter, cmlsldr74, commented on reddit:

“Still denied, must conform to AR 670-1 grooming regulations while on leave.

He should have put:

“Going home to learn the NCO creed and to get ready for WLC, Jumpmaster School, and Ranger School. Will not beat my wife or consume alcohol.”

Edit: I didn’t see a composite risk management for the bear wrestling either. Someone counsel this soldier right now.”

Popular Military was unable to confirm if either of these leave forms were actually submitted.
