A Soldier in Hawaii who is currently facing charges for producing child pornography has been charged yet again, following the disappearance of his pregnant wife.
The Army has officially charged Private First Class Dewayne Arthur Johnson II with several crimes related to the disappearance of his wife, Mischa Johnson.
The charges against him include giving false statements to officials, obstructing justice, and involvement in producing and sharing explicit images of children.
Johnson is currently being held in pretrial confinement as the investigation continues. Before these charges can lead to a court-martial, there will be a preliminary hearing.
Should the case move forward, Johnson will be formally arraigned, and a military judge will organize the necessary pre-trial proceedings and set a trial date.
The case is under the oversight of the Office of Special Trial Counsel (OSTC), a part of the Pentagon’s new system for dealing with serious criminal cases like murder, sexual assault, and domestic violence without relying on the regular military chain of command.
OSTC spokesperson Michelle McCaskill commented on the situation, giving few details.
“This case remains an active investigation,” she told Task & Purpose. “We are confident that law enforcement will exhaust all efforts to find Mischa, and the likelihood of additional charges is certainly a possibility as the case develops.”
The investigation into Mischa Johnson’s disappearance has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the charges and the tragic circumstances.
As the investigation progresses, it is possible that more charges could be brought against Johnson.
Military and local law enforcement have expressed their resolution in continuing the search for Johnson’s spouse.
