He might not be one of the “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but he’s certainly invested in guarding the people of California’s Solano County- and protected his country before taking on his duties in the Golden State.
Such is the story of Cully Pratt, a nine-year Army veteran, seasoned police officer, and artist who just so happens to be actor Chris Pratt’s older brother.

Enlisting in the US Army in 1995, Daniel “Cully” Pratt spent 8.5 years in the US Army, serving as an Infantryman before reclassing as a Military Policeman.
“I set out to be a Marine, ended up being in the Army Infantry- two years turned into four, four turned into six,” Pratt told the Christian Post in an interview. “And I ended up doing just under nine years in the Army from Infantry, Military Police and recruiting in the Bay Area.”
Taking on recruiting and retention roles before deciding he had enough of Army life, Pratt was considering going into the arts, but felt returning to duty as a police officer would be a smarter move.
“The education experience I got in the Army just kind of set me up really good for localized law enforcement,” he said. “So I gave that a shot and I thought I’d do that for a couple of years. And here I am 15 years later.”
Ironically, his police work took him all over, much in the same way military life shuffles a soldier from unit to unit. Bouncing back and forth between two departments, Pratt eventually settled in with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office.
In a funny exchange with ABC10, Pratt’s A-list brother, Chris, was told he had a video from a fan who had questions for him. Willing to oblige, he found a familiar face in the video.
“I was wondering, how do you do it?” Cully Pratt asked with a smirk. “How do you stay so motivated, so humble, so grounded, so inspirational and so nice? I’m sure all your fans would like to know, who in your life has affected you more than anyone else?”
His younger brother began touching his own face, with tears welling up in his eyes, as a smile turned to laugh-crying.
With a dead serious face, Chris Pratt looked at the camera and said, “my sister,” followed by every person her could think of except his brother.
Eventually, Pratt relented and admitted his brother was the anchor of sanity in his life, noting that he was someone he always looked up to.
“He’s my best friend,” he said of his elder brother, Cully. “I love that you got him to do this, it moved me to tears.”
Now well-established with the SCSO, Cully Pratt currently serves at the agency’s Public Information Officer, where he stands as a friendly -and necessary- buffer between law enforcement and press.
Given the way Hollywood is these days, the Pratts seem to be the most functional family in Tinseltown, despite several hardships, including the loss of their father and Chris’ divorce with Anna Faris.
When not on duty, Cully is a master woodworking artist, who has made countless quality works, many of which are available for sale.
