President Joe Biden appeared to forget the name of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and the Pentagon during a press conference, causing some critics to question whether or not the Commander in Chief possesses the mental fitness to remain in charge.
Speaking at a press conference on International Women’s Day, Biden appeared to forget who his SecDef was.
“I want to thank you both and I want to thank the sec-, the, the, ugh, the former general, I keep calling him general but my, my, ugh, the guy who runs that outfit over there,’ Biden said. “I want to make sure we thank the secretary for all he’s done to try to implement what we’ve just talked about and for recommending these two women for promotion. Thank you all and God bless you all and may God protect our troops.”
According to the Daily Mail, Biden had mentioned Austin by name less than a minute earlier.
Some critics feel that Biden’s advanced age and forgetfulness opens the door for invoking the 25th Amendment -which allows a president to be removed from office if they are deemed to be unfit- and discussions have been had over whether or not Biden’s “war powers” should be dialed back.
Around the net, there has been speculation as to why the president has been notably absent from appearances and press conferences, with many suggesting his gab-prone nature and apparent cognitive decline being the primary reasons.
