Army veteran Alek Skarlatos is taking on Rep. Peter DeFazio for Oregon’s Fourth District seat in Congress.
This week he released an ad, which highlights the fact DeFazio lives on a yacht in Washington D.C.
Skarlatos claims that after 33 years in politics, DeFazio has no interest in protecting the industries vital to Oregon’s economy.
“Alek Skarlatos is a true hero and the right man to take on Peter DeFazio, a do-nothing Democrat that has lived off the taxpayer’s dime for over 30 years,” Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the top Republican in the U.S. House, said in a written statement in June.
The Army National Guard veteran is best known for his role in thwarting a would-be terrorist on a Paris-bound train in 2015.
That event led to Skarlatos starring as himself, alongside friends who also participated, in the Clint Eastwood-directed movie 15:17 to Paris.
