(Oahu, HI) Local residents captured several pictures and video of strange lights appearing over the Hawaiian island of Oahu on Monday night.
The US Army’s 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks has taken credit for these lights, saying they were actually mortars from live fire training.
Officials quelled the rumors of a possibly UFO sighting by explaining that overcast conditions illuminated the mortars more than usual.
This was not the first time the military has taken responsiblity for strange lights that have been spotted over the Hawaiian islands.
In 2014, photographers captured bright zigzag lights overhead all across the islands of Oahu, Maui and Lanai.

According to Hawaii News Now, the mysterious lights were likely caused by a missile launch from the Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands on Kauai.
