A Fort Stewart Soldier and his wife are in police custody after they allegedly killed their toddler mere days before her second birthday.

Cynthia Camp and US Army Specialist Amir Camp were arrested after turning themselves in. In addition, Tracey Howard was also taken into custody by law enforcement.

The arrests surround the death of Serenity Belue, the daughter of Cynthia Camp and stepdaughter of Amir Camp.

According to WSAV, the Camp family had been assigned to the Georgia-based military installation since May of 2017.

Hinesville Police were called to the Camp residence on Friday, following up on reports of an unresponsive child. Despite the best efforts of first responders, the Serenity Belue did not make it.

An unidentified neighbor claimed that Cynthia Camp -a mother for four- was hysterical in a less-than-convincing manner prior to the 911 call, claiming her Belue had suffocated. Another neighbor had attempted to help, but the child was already deceased.

Hinesville PD Chief Bill Kirkendall reported that the autopsy had been conducted on March 11, and that the results pointed to a homicide.

“[You] hear about the death of a child, it naturally just has a personal impact and children aren’t supposed to die,” HPD Detective Captain Tracey Howard said.

Specialist Camp and his wife are being held without bond in the Liberty County Jail.
