A solider stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina is in custody after being accused of kidnapping and raping another soldier in his unit.

26-year-old Sergeant Johnathon Paul Will Simpson of the 659th Maintenance Company, 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command was arrested Friday night and charged with first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and sexual battery in connection to a sexual assault that took place last Monday.

Simpson -a small arms repair specialist who joined in 2008 and has one Afghanistan tour to his credit- was arrested at his place of work with the assistance of Military Police. Fayetteville Police confirms that he was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $250,000 bond.

Simpson’s victim is alleged to be the same age and in the same unit as Simpson.

XVIII Airborne Corps Public Affairs Chief SGM Tom Clementson told Popular Military that “we are aware of the charges against SGT Simpson and continue to cooperate with local law enforcement as they investigate this case. We are focused on providing all of the necessary support to the victim.”
