The Army has released new information this week following the death of a drill sergeant at Fort Jackson.
Staff Sgt. Allen Burtram, 34, was found dead by emergency medical personnel after he didn’t show up to work.
He was pronounced dead once they arrived.
According to News19, Burtram had served in the army for 12 years but had only been at Fort Jackson for the last 18 months.
During his time in service, he spent time overseas in Kuwait and Korea.
Burtram was a drill sergeant with the 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment and had just finished a basic training cycle that finished on November 30.
The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the death but has stated there is no apparent evidence of foul play.
“It’s with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my husband Allen Burtram on December 8th 2023, ” his wife, Kay, wrote on Facebook.
“We’ll gather to honor his memory on Dec 29th 2023 at 11:00am. Please join us at Lemley Chapel Funeral Home at 6878 2nd Ave W, Oneonta, AL 35121 to celebrate his life. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and support.”
Burtram awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (5 times); Army Achievement Medal (4 times); Army Good Conduct Medal (3 times); National Defense Service Medal, Global War of Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korea Defense Service Medal; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon (2 times).
