A senior Army NCO who is already serving time in federal prison was recently sentenced to state prison for the sexual assault of a child in North Carolina.

Former Fort Bragg soldier Master Sgt. Joshua G. Glardon, 42, was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 23 years in prison after entering an Alford plea to a charge of first-degree felony statutory sex offense.

An Alford plea is a form of a guilty plea in which he does not admit to committing the crime but has agreed that the prosecution has enough evidence to obtain a conviction.

The original charges were filed after an investigation began in July 2021 by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, according to the Fayetteville Observer.

The investigation began after the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office received an online tip from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation on April 26, 2021, that alleged Glardon accessed pornographic images of children from his Fayetteville home.

Another tip stated that Glardon shared sexually explicit images of children through his email to the Kik messenger application.

A woman engaged in a sexual relationship with Glardon also claimed she witnessed him engaged in a sexual act with a 10-year-old girl after he was left alone with her.

Court records state the woman admitted to engaging in sexual activity with Glardon while the girl was present and bringing the child into the activity.

She also admitted to sending photos of the girl “in different stages of dress,” and with the child’s genitals exposed to Glardon at his request.

Glardon was arrested in September of 2021 while he was working as a military science instructor at Appalachian State University under the U.S. Army Cadet Command.

He had only been working there since April 2021.

Before his university assignment he he was a first sergeant with the 4th Psychological Operations Group at Fort Liberty (formerly Fort Bragg).

State records show he was transferred to North Carolina’s Foothills Correctional Institution on Jan. 4.

Glardon was already serving time in federal prison after being sentenced in federal court to 76 years in after pleading guilty to four counts of distributing child pornography.
