Army investigating death of paratrooper on base at Fort Bragg

An Army airborne soldier at Fort Bragg died in his barracks room on Saturday.

Specialist Carlton L. Butler, a 22-year-old infantryman, was assigned to Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.

“Carlton was an energetic and motivated Paratrooper,” said Lieutenant Colonel Graham R. White, commander of 2nd Battalion, 505th PIR. “Our thoughts now turn to his family and fellow paratroopers.”

According to his social media, he competed as an Army boxer in the welterweight division.

Butler, of North Miami Beach, Florida, joined the Army in June 2014, according to WRAL. He was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in December of the same year.
