Army identifies young infantry soldier who died in Iraq

A US soldier from California was killed in Iraq yesterday in what DoD is reporting as a “non-combat” incident.

20-year-old Avadon Chaves of Turlock was killed in Al Anbar Province, striking a heavy blow to the Fort Bliss-based 1st Armored Division.

A member of the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, Chaves is the second soldier from the 6th Infantry Regiment to killed by a non-combat incident this month.

The Pentagon has not released any more information on the incident.
