The Army has identified the soldier who died during a training accident at the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Johnson -formerly Fort Polk.
23-year-old Lt. Zachary Galli had only served in the Army for 1 year and 9 months before dying on Saturday.
“It is with an extremely heavy heart that I inform you of the passing of 1st Lt. Zachary Galli,” said Col. Brennan Fitzgerald, commander 71st EOD. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of the Galli family, the 749th EOD Co. and the greater EOD community.”
Galli was an explosive ordnance disposal officer assigned to the 749th Ordnance Company, 242nd Explosive Ordnance Battalion of the 71st EOD Group at Fort Carson.
Before commissioning as an Army officer he was part of the University of Virginia’s ROTC program and graduated in 2022 with a degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science.
Army officials did not provide any details about the accident that took his life.
