Army helicopter crashes near Fort Polk, at least one killed


A rotary-wing aircraft flying a MEDEVAC mission crashed at Fort Polk and has claimed at least one life, according to local news.

The personnel involved were from Fort Polk’s U.S. Army Air Ambulance Detachment, 1st Battalion, 5th Aviation Regiment.

Fort Polk has issued the following statement on their official Facebook Page:

“Early this morning, an Army helicopter accident occurred in the JRTC and Fort Polk training area. Emergency services immediately responded to the 1-5 Aviation Battalion (Fort Polk based unit) accident scene. Four crew members were on board the helicopter; one is deceased and three were injured. Names will not be released until notification of the next of kin is complete. The cause of the accident is under investigation.”

The crash is still under investigation and names will not be released until family members are contacted.  This is a breaking news story and will be updated as information is released.
