Army helicopter crashes in Alabama, casualties taken to hospital

A helicopter from Fort Novosel crashed in Geneva County on Thursday, causing injuries to three people.

The incident, described as an “aviation mishap” by Fort Novosel officials, involved a UH-72 Lakota helicopter.

The mishap took place around 3:17 p.m. during a routine flight training exercise at Highbluff Stagefield, which is located near Hartford.

Soon after the crash, first responders and officials from Fort Novosel were notified and quickly arrived at the scene.

All three crew members who were on board the helicopter were taken to a local hospital.

According to WTVY, officials say the injuries the crew sustained are considered to be minor.

Investigators are currently working to determine the nature of the mishap.

Fort Novosel is the new-ish name for what was formerly known as Fort Rucker, and is where Army Aviators earn their wings.
