An Airman murdered his family before turning his weapon on himself, an incident that has shocked the local community around Washington’s Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Spokesman Ed Troyer reported that 29-year-old Clinton Field had called the agency at around 1AM on Tuesday and told them that he had killed his wife and two children, identified as 33-year-old Samantha Field, 4-year-old Ava Field and 2-year-old Ashen Field.

“He thanked us for our time, but said by the time we got there he would be deceased as well, and he followed through with that,” said Troyer.

While SWAT units were dispatched to the house, they soon realized that Field had kept his word- having taken his own life before police could arrive.

Reportedly from New Hampshire, Field himself was from Titusville, Florida, and had been in the US Air Force for some time. During his time in the service, he had been around several high-profile personnel including former US Army General David Petraeus.

In the past, Field had mentioned suicide and was reportedly facing a pending divorce, according to investigators trying to piece together a motive.

“We have obtained a little bit of information that he was upset and that he had a past incident that mentioned suicide, so he may have been being treated for that,” Troyer said.

According to KIRO7, the family bought the home after the airman returned from a deployment to Korea 14 months ago.
