An Airman from California has been pronounced dead after being found on the side of the rode near Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany.
29-year-old Staff Sergeant Justin Vandervort was found along the A60 Tuesday afternoon and declared dead shortly after.
A member of the 2nd Medical Operations Squadron, he served as an instructor at a First-Term Airman Course, which trains airmen to become more proficient as they transition from training schools to “Big Air Force.”
“Each and every person in this wing is a tremendously valuable member of Saber Nation,” Colonel Jason Bailey, commander of the 52nd Fighter Wing, said in a statement. “This loss affects the entire Spangdahlem community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and wingmen. We are doing everything possible to support them during this difficult time.”
According to the Air Force Times, the cause of Vandervort’s death is unknown and is currently under investigation.
