Airman found dead at an “undisclosed location” overseas

An airman deployed in support of US military operations is reported to have died of mysterious circumstances, prompting an investigation.

The body of Staff Sergeant Tristen Wright, 28, was found on August 15, and he was subsequently pronounced dead after being sent to a medical treatment facility.

The exact location of Wright’s deployment and the circumstances of his death have not been disclosed, and an investigation is currently underway.

Wright, originally from Palm Bay, Florida, served in the Air Force’s 27th Special Operations Logistics Readiness Squadron based at Cannon Air Force Base, New Mexico.

Wright was deployed as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, which is the US military’s mission to combat the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.

Air Force Maj. Brent Escay, the commander of the 27th SOLRS, spoke highly of Wright, describing him as a positive influence and a dedicated leader.

“Tristen was a force for good within the 27 SOLRS and beyond,” Escay said.

Wright’s Air Force career began when he enlisted in August 2016. Since 2019, he had been working as a material management specialist with the 27th SOLRS. From 2017 to 2019, he was stationed at Kadena Air Force Base in Japan, serving with the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

Col. Robert Johnston, commander of the 27th Special Operations Wing, also expressed his condolences, emphasizing the impact Wright had on those around him.

“These are our most difficult days,” Johnston said.

Wright had previously been deployed in support of Operations Resolute Support and Inherent Resolve.

Throughout his service, he earned several awards, including the US Air and Space Force Commendation Medal and the US Air Force Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters. His other awards include the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
