Active-duty soldier kills wife and then himself at Georgia shopping mall


A Fort Stewart soldier and his wife are dead after a shooting in Georgia on Friday afternoon.

The two were identified as Sergeant First Class (SFC) Christopher J. Williams, 35, and his wife, Terrica L Williams, 36, according to the Hinesville Police Department.

Hinesville Police said Mrs. Williams pulled her sedan into Liberty Square Shopping Center while her husband was following her.

SFC Williams chased his wife into a business in the shopping center with a gun and barricaded himself there.

Officers responded to the scene at 1:30 p.m. where witnesses reported hearing gunshots.

Liberty County Sheriff’s Office deputies broke the front window of the business, entered, and found both individuals dead, according to Fox28.

SFC Williams was an a culinary management noncommissioned officer assigned to the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart.

“On behalf of the entire division, I wish to convey my sincerest condolences to both families in the wake of this tragic and shocking incident,” said Maj. Gen, Charles D. Costanza, the commanding general of 3rd ID and Fort Stewart.

“We are working closely with local authorities during their investigation and are providing as much support as we can to both families during this very difficult time.”

Williams had served in the Army for 15 years and deployed five times, including one combat deployment to Iraq.

His awards include two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, five Army Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, an Iraq Campaign Medal – Campaign Star, a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a Korea Defense Service Medal, and a Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
